Abstract

Nematic liquid-crystal mixtures for electro-optic modulation or display are characterised in that as constituents of the mixture there are used one or several members from the homologous series of the 5-subst.-2- (4-subst.-phenyl)-pyrimidines of the general formula <IMAGE> wherein R<1> and R<2> designate identical or different substituents, for example CnH2n+1-, CnH2n+1O-, CnH2n+1COO- or CnH2n+1CO-, from the homologous series of the 4-subst.- cyclohexane-carboxylic acid-[4-subst.- phenylester] having the general formula <IMAGE> where in R is -CmH2m+1, -OCmH2m+1, -COCmH2m+1, -CN or -NO2, as well as from the homologous series of the 4-subst.-benzoic acid-[4-cyano- phenylester] of the general formula <IMAGE> wherein R may be CnH2n+1- or CnH2n+1O-. Dichroic dye may be present.
