Abstract
An interferometer comprises a rotating prism P1 having a rhomboidal or rectangular base, and an arrangement of stationary optical elements P2, P3, L1, L2 for directing light beams 2, 3 into the prism P1 and bringing the beams 4, 5 leaving the prism into interference. At a certain position in each revolution of the prism, the optical paths of the two beams, inside the prism, have equal lengths, and constitute a mirror reflection of each other in relation to the symmetry axis passing through the base of the prism. All the stationary optical elements can be connected adhesively into a single optical block by glass spacing elements. In Fig. 1 a glass plate P1 and mirrors L1, L2 direct light into the prism and then the mirrors direct the light leaving the prism to interfere at a second glass plate P3. In Fig. 2 (not shown) two stationary prisms (P2, P3) direct light into the rotating prism (P1). The light leaving the rotating prism (P1) is directed back by two mirrors (L1, L2) and interferes between the stationary prisms (at W). The interferometer according to the invention finds particular application in Fourier spectrometers. <IMAGE>
