Abstract
In a method for the production of gases free from particulate contaminants, e.g. for use in driving gas turbines 7 without causing fouling or corrosion of the blading, a gas contaminated with particulate material, for instance produced in a fluidised bed reactor 1 by the combustion or gasification of coal, and a tackifying material, such as a crackable hydrocarbon or an inorganic compound, are fed to a collection medium, preferably a fluidised particle bed 5, maintained at a temperature whereat the tackifying material becomes sticky and is deposited as a liquid of low vapour pressure on the collection medium. The contaminants are removed by becoming stuck thereon. Part of the particle bed 5 may be continuously removed for treatment 19 to remove separated contaminants. The particle bed may also adsorb gaseous components of the gas. <IMAGE>
