Abstract
A transformer for use in a static inverter having semiconductor switching devices has a primary winding 16, a secondary winding 17, a feedback winding 18 and first and second control windings 19, 20, associated with a linear magnetic core 15. A pair of serially arranged apertures 27, 28 partition the core into five localized branches 30, 31, 32, 33, 34 (see Fig. 4D). The second control winding 20 is coupled via a central branch 32 lying between the apertures, to the first control winding 19. At the initial part of each switching cycle, regenerative control action is provided to the associated switching device by the first control winding. As the cycle progresses, a pair of branches saturate, these being in Fig. 4D the branches 31, 33 shown shaded, reducing the regenerative control action, and diverting the main flux through the central branch in a sense reversed to that provided by the first control winding. When the main flux is coupled to the second control winding, degenerative control action results, completing the turn off of the semiconductor device. Inverter circuits are disclosed (Figs. 1 and 5, not shown). <IMAGE>
