Abstract

In a system for controlling positioning of a plurality of work tools each of which is connected to a spindle which on rotation varies the position of the work tool, each spindle being driven by a motor (8) having an associated generator (6) for producing pulses (f) indicative of the position of the tool, the system comprising a central processing unit (1) arranged to send pulse signals (m) to a positioning controller (2) which is connected to a servo amplifier (7) via a first switch (A3), the servo amplifier (7) being connectable to a selected one of the motors (8) by a second switch (B4) in order to activate said selected motor to position a work tool, and a third switch (B'5) for connecting the generator (6) associated with said selector motor (8) to the positioning controller (2), the first, second and third switches are activated by signals (a, b), produced by the central processing unit which is arranged so that when the servo amplifier is to be connected to a different motor (8), the unit (1) switches off the pulse signals (m) to the positioning controller and then actuates the first switch (A3) to render it non-conductive and then, after a predetermined length of time, simultaneously activates the second and third switches (B4, B'5) to respectively connect the servo amplifier to said different motor (8) and the generator associated with said different motor to the positioning controller, and then actuates the first switch to render it conductive and finally switches on said pulse signals to the positioning controller. <IMAGE>
