Abstract

In a two or four pole a.c. reluctance motor with induction starting, the periphery of the squirrel-cage rotor is provided with at least two reluctance slots 14, and the stator has at least one slot 16 for causing a discontinuity in the magnetic field at the air gap between the rotor and the stator. The motor shows an operating characteristic similar to connecting the shaft of a two pole induction motor and one or more n-pole synchronous motors. Rotor speeds, especially at half normal speed, will remain constant over a range of applied torques. <IMAGE>
