Abstract

A rotating electrical machine having an oblique air gap between the stator and rotor, with an inclination angle alpha = 25 DEG -155 DEG or 205 DEG -355 DEG with respect to the rotation axis of the shaft of the rotor, makes possible a reduction in the magnetisation current and hence also an improvement in the machine utilisation factor. This is achieved by reducing the air gaps. The new design furthermore produces improvements with respect to shortening and reducing the size of the shaft diameter (material saving), reducing the cross-section of the electrical conductors while improving the cooling, reducing the insulation-voltage level, and improving the starting torque and the current. It furthermore raises the possibility of simplifying production of the pole cores. <IMAGE>
