Abstract

In a fluid separator apparatus, e.g. an aircraft oxygen generator, wherein pressurized fluid mixture flows alternately through an adsorbent bed 14 or 16 to produce a product fluid whilst a counterflow of purge fluid, eg product fluid, regenerates the other bed, each adsorbent bed is retained in a housing by means defining an inlet chamber and an outlet chamber at opposite ends of the bed, the inlet face of the bed providing a greater flow area than the outlet face, e.g. the inlet chamber being an annular chamber 186 formed around the outlet chamber 196 at one end of a cylindrical housing, or the inlet and outlet being at opposite ends of a frusto-conical housing. In addition a sensor controlled heater (28) may maintain the temperatures of the incoming fluid mixture within a predetermined temperature range and the apparatus may be contained in a temperature-control jacket 24 to counteract external temperature fluctuations. <IMAGE>
