Abstract
1,248,348. Reacting a gas with a liquid. COLGATE PALMOLIVE CO. 7 Oct., 1969 [9 Oct., 1968], No. 49266/69. Heading B1R. In an apparatus for reacting a gas with a liquid the gas enters the reaction chamber 20 through an inlet pipe 26 extending through a reactor head 12 and discharging the gas adjacent the wall of the reaction chamber to contact a film of the liquid flowing along the wall after passing through a porous ring 38. The ring 38 is disposed in an annular chamber surrounding a portion of the inlet pipe 26 and liquid is supplied to the chamber through an inlet connection 30. The reaction chamber may be surrounded by a jacket through which a cooling medium is circulated. In another arrangement the reaction chamber contains a hollow body defining with the reaction chamber an annular reaction space. Liquid may be fed through a pair of concentric porous rings. The porous ring(s) may be of ceramic material having a pore size of at least 20 microns.
