Abstract

Particle size distribution of granular substances such as raw materials for iron making, is measured by arranging that the material 14 falls past an illuminated screen 15 and is screened by a T.V. camera 7. The source 6 is pulsed and the memory 8 actuated in synchronism therewith. Alternatively a freezing of motion is obtained by interrupting the light beam or sampling the camera output. Screen 15 may be between the material and the camera. Compensation for irregularity in particle shape may be performed. <IMAGE>
