Abstract
Stable adducts of glutaraldehyde or oxydiacetaldehyde with 1,4-butane- disulphinic acid are disclosed. These adducts may be prepared by reacting the dialdehyde with the butane- disulphinic acid in a suitable solvent, generally water, and generally in a molar ratio of from 2:1 to 1:2. The adducts decompose on addition to an alkaline aqueous solution to liberate free dialdehyde and may thus be employed in the production of sterilizing solutions containing the aldehyde as sterilizing agent. The adducts may be put up in the form of compositions also containing an alkaline reagent, such as sodium bicarbonate, which composition on addition to water will give a free aldehyde containing solution.
