Abstract

A hydroelectric generator assembly for flowing water comprises one or more floating piers 8 supporting a plurality of water wheels 1-7 arranged in series in a partially enclosed leat (channel). Each water wheel 1-7 is coupled to the adjacent wheel(s) by pulley driven belts 10. One or more upstream wheels 1, 2, 3 are connected with a non-unity velocity ratio, so that at least one of the wheels 2, 3 accelerates the flow. The arrangement has a further downstream water wheel which similarly accelerates the flow, to facilitate placement of further generating devices downstream of the arrangement. A floating flotsam boom 14 is provided, and the floating pier 8 has adjustable deflector walls 11 to increase or control flow into the channel.
