Abstract

The insulation assembly 10 is a bonded composite structure which includes upper 22 and lower 24 layers of stone wool and an intermediate configuration 26 with a different density, preferably higher, to the stone wool layers. The intermediate configuration may have thermoplastics material and may also include a layer of ceramics material such as alkaline earth silicate. The intermediate configuration may include an elastomeric foam open cell material which is fire resistant. An intumescent material may be provided for side sealing 48. Reinforced aluminium sheets 28 may be located on the outer faces of the upper and lower layers. The upper stone layer may be of a greater density than the lower stone wool layer. The layers may be bonded together with an acrylic adhesive. The assembly is preferably in use located in the gap between a concrete floor slab 18 and the interior face of a wall 20 to act as a seal.
