Abstract

A fluidized bed furnace, of the kind comprising a sectionally fluidisable bed of incombustible particulate material 10 within which fuel is to be burnt, incorporates a preheating and ignition burner system 20 located above the bed at or near one end portion 18 of the bed. Also at that end is a main fuel feed 23 to the bed. Spaced from the preheating and ignition burner system is an exhaust gas guidance system having a first upstanding wall 35 edged at 36 and a second depending wall 33 forcing multiple changes of direction of the exhaust gas as it passes to outlet 40 and then into a rotary drier 41. The fluidisable bed passes under the upstanding wall 35 and terminates before an ash collection ledge 31. <IMAGE>
