Abstract

In order to reduce the number of pins required on its encapsulation(s) when a word-organised, content- addressable memory is constructed in integrated circuit form the "correspondence" signal output (M1) of each word location (36) is coupled to an "information-transfer-enable" signal input thereof via a signal path which can be blocked if a bistable validity indicator (39) is in its reset state. If this is so and a "write in a free word position" signal (WFP) is applied to the arrangement after flip-flop 42 has been set the corresponding word location will be activated provided that a multiple match resolver or sequence generator (42, 46, 48, 49, 80, 81, 140) gives that location priority. If the validity indicator is in its set state application of a masked keyword (37) will cause the corresponding word location to be activated if correspondence occurs provided the sequence generator gives the location priority. Selected validity indicators can be reset by applying a keyword and a "clear part of memory" signal (CPM) to the arrangement. Output 140 is connected to the input 81 for the following word location (36). <IMAGE>
