Abstract

A tool spindle for machine tools comprises a casing (2) in which a tool-supporting hollow spindle member (1) is mounted and guided for rotary and translatory movements. A hollow driving shaft (7) is mounted rotationally in the casing (1) and is secured therein against axial displacement, said driving shaft extending co-axially into the spindle member (1) and engaging it positively for imparting a rotary movement to the spindle member (1). An axially displaceable sleeve member (9) extends co-axially into the driving shaft (7) and is provided at one end portion with an external screwthread which engages with a driven nut (12) which is mounted in the casing (2) so as to be rotatable but axially immovable. The sleeve member (9) is connected rotatably but axially immovably at its other end to the spindle member (1) by means of a thrust bearing (10) for imparting a translatory movement to the spindle member (1). A guide rod extends co-axially into the sleeve member (9) which engages the guide rod (14) positively to enable the sleeve member (9) to slide along the guide rod (14) and to be secured against rotation thereon. <IMAGE>
