Abstract

A source of welding current for use in welding work-pieces which are spaced apart by an air gap of varying width, is characterised by a voltage- current characteristic (Fig. 2, full line) such that a change in the air gap during welding does not substantially change the welding current from a constant value. The characteristic is achieved by a transformer having loose coupling between its primary and secondary windings. <IMAGE>
