Abstract

A cyclone separator has a horizontal disposed cyclone chamber 10, a heavy fraction discharge box 14 and a light fraction discharge box 19. The cyclone chamber has outlets 13, 18 into the boxes 14, 19 respectively, and a tangential inlet 23. A vortex finder 22 extends into the chamber 10 from the box 19 and is adjustable. A spear valve with a conical head 25 is adjustable axially of the vortex finders 22 and chamber 10 between positions adjacent the outlet 13, and within the box 19, for varying back- pressure within the cyclone chamber and enabling the separation point of the separator to be varied without movement of the vortex finder. <IMAGE>
