Abstract

A bistable relay (R1s) is switched to its de-activated state when an excitation voltage (U) is removed. The series circuit of the relay coil and a capacitor (C1) is connected to the excitation voltage (U) for energising the relay and charging the capacitor (C1) and is short circuited, upon absence of the excitation voltage (U1), through a semiconductor switch (T1). After the capacitor has been fully charged and the excitation voltage switched off, a voltage drop appears across a resistance element (D1) which renders the semiconductor switch conductive whereby the series circuit is short-circuited and the relay switches back to its original de-energised state. In other arrangements, the control switch(s) and/or the switch (T1) are replaced by a bistable switch such as a cross-coupled pair of transistors, or SCRs. These, together with zener diodes precisely determine the voltages at which the relay becomes energised and de-energised. <IMAGE>
