Abstract
1,047,524. Transistor switching circuits. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. May 2, 1963 [May 17, 1962], No. 19106/62. Heading H3T. A fail safe switching circuit comprises a D.C. operated load such as relay RL connected in parallel with diode D between one or other pole of the supply source and (through a capacitor) to the junction of two transistors connected across the source. An input signal applied to the transistors causes the transistors to become conducting alternately, so charging and discharging the capacitor. The charging current is by-passed from the load by the diode but the discharge current flows in pulses through the load to cause it to operate. Failure due to open-circuit or short-circuit of the transistors prevents the load from being energized as also does failure of the capacitor, the diode being so poled as to by-pass short-circuit current from the supply through the capacitor. The Specification also describes known circuits in which transistor 2 is replaced by a resistor (Figs. 1 and 2, not shown).
