Abstract
A layer of laminations formed by one or more elements, as shown elements 1 and 2, has gaps 3, 4 and 5 bounded by the closely spaced juxtaposed edges 1a and 2a, 1b and 2b, 1c and 2c of the sheet material of the laminations. The gaps between the edges vary in width along their lengths so that the shorter magnetic lines of force A and C extend across the wider regions of the gap and the longer magnetic lines of force B and D extend across the narrower regions of the gap. Layers comprising M, UI, EE and FF forms of laminations are envisaged. <IMAGE>
