Abstract

The invention relates to apparatus for gripping and displacing articles (23) e.g. from a pile in receiver 22 to a table 1 for conveyance by detents 3 on an endless belt (4), the apparatus being in the form of a support (12) that is displaceable in opposite directions on guide means (10 and 11) and magnetic or pneumatic gripping means (20 and 21) carried by the support (12) for displacement in opposite directions at right angles to the displacement of the support (12). Control means (6, 24 and 29) are provided for controlling displacement of the support and gripping means and for actuating and de-actuating the latter, and where the endless belt is provided, the control may be synchronised with movement of the belt. <IMAGE>
