Abstract

An annular insert 10 is composed at least in part of a closed cell resilient material and in use fits about a wheel rim within a pneumatic tyre 30. The insert fills less than the whole internal cross-sectional volume of the inflated tyre but should the tyre become deflated, the insert expands to fill or substantially so the internal volume of the tyre due to the increase in temperature caused by the increased flexing of the tyre and insert. The consequent return to or towards the normal operative tyre shape results in the tyre subsequently running at or near normal running temperature. The insert 10 may alternatively be formed by three side-by-side rings of the resilient material as shown in dashed lines in the drawing. <IMAGE>
