Abstract

Charcoal.-Active charcoal is obtained by heating, in presence of air or free oxygen and an acid of phosphorus, carbonaceous material, such as wood, peat, straw, brown coal or a mixture of these materials, in a revolving furnace, internally heated by combustion gases. The use of excess oxygen, so that some remains in the effluent gases, is advantageous.
