Abstract

An apparatus for the checking of the play of steering and front axle on motor vehicles comprises a respective plate (4) to engage tightly each front wheel (only one plate 4 shown), the plates being displaceable in a horizontal plane by a pneumatic piston and cylinder unit (10, 12) to pivot about a vertical axis (7) lying in the central radial plane of the wheel but outside the steering axis. The pneumatic unit is sufficiently strong for the wheels to be deflected through any play but not to overcome the steering resistance; the deflection is measured as an extent of the play. <IMAGE>
