Abstract

A valve 10 used as a diverter in a waste heat recovery system has a gas-tight casing 12 to reduce losses. Three ducts having respective registering formations 66, 70, 86, extend into casing 12. Formation 66 rotates between positions in respective ones of which its registers with formations 70, 86 and inbetween which partially registers with them both. The ducts are perpendicular to one another. Fan 94 pressurises casing 12 to counterbalance pressures in the ducts. The ducts may be cylindrical, square or rectangular. Duct 66 can be attached to a gas turbine plant or a furnace, the other ducts being attached to a dump stack and a boiler, respectively. Alternatively, at least one valve 10 can be incorporated into a twin matrix switched ducts heat exchanger. <IMAGE>
