Abstract
The strut 6 for a sprinkler head comprises an elongate member 7 formed by two components 10, 11 the confronting end faces of which are angled relative to a plane transverse to the main axis of the strut. A fusible element 9 co-operates with the components 10, 11 to prevent relative sliding movement between the confronting end faces under load up to a predetermined temperature at which the element 9 melts and the strut 6 collapses. The fusible element may be a plug located within the member 7 (Figure 1) or an external sleeve. A door control mechanism also incorporates the strut. The element 9 may be electrically conducting and the components 10, 11 electrically insulating allowing the element 9 to be electrically connected by a monitor circuit to a remote control station which gives an indication when the circuit breaks following dissolution of the element 9. <IMAGE>
