Abstract

The invention relates to a heel attaching method and apparatus. A fastener F having a head portion A and a shank portion B is heated to a temperature above the softening temperature of thermoplastic material of the heel 4 and is inserted so that the shank portion passes through an insole I of the shoe and is pressed into the thermoplastic material of the heel. Heat from the fastener causes the thermoplastic material to soften allowing the shank portion to enter the material and become embedded therein. The apparatus comprises means for locating a shoe, means for clamping a heel against the shoe, means 54 for heating a fastener, and means 14, 16, 18 for inserting the fastener as aforesaid. <IMAGE>
