Abstract

A conductive paper with a dielectric plastic coating on both sides is printed on both sides. Latent images containing variable information are formed on each side by electrode structures 305, 305A each comprising a plurality of rows of spaced-apart electrodes, with electrodes in successive rows being staggered. The electrodes may be elongated in a direction transverse to the paper feed direction and energized to form elongated images. Format rollers 307 and 307A apply predetermined formats to the two sides of the paper, forming latent images, by charging it, in co-operation with a common bias roller 309, offset from both format rollers. The latent images are developed in a toner station 350 where the paper passes through a bath of toner liquid, which contains suspended particles. The bath level can be lowered for one- sided printing. <IMAGE>
