Abstract

A cable-hauled trolley for the transport of men and materials around a mine is adapted to negotiate curved and steep tracks and pass through areas of limited height clearance, and is provided with a more efficient brake system than are presently used trolleys. The trolley runs on a track comprising a pair of rails and is hauled by a cable (59) running between the rails. The trolley comprises a base (50), on which men or materials are placed, a set of wheels (51) to support the base, a fluid-operated brake (53), preferably a friction brake, and a fluid-operated clamp (55) which clamps onto the cable (59). The brake (53) and clamp (55) are operated by a control system (123) and a fluid power supply (150). Preferably the brake (53) is actuated by gravity and released by fluid-power so that the braking system is fail safe and the brake is not fully released until the clamp is fully clamped onto the cable. The trolley is for use in coal or other mining operations or in any cable- hauled track transport system. <IMAGE>
