1495041 Berthing vessels in docks; railway stops TAYLOR WOODROW INTERNATIONAL Ltd 21 April 1976 [3 Feb 1975] 4614/75 Headings B7S and B7L Equipment for manoeuvring a vessel with respect to a restricted channel comprises a rail 1 along each side of the channel, a trolley 2 movably mounted on each rail, a winch associated with each rail and from which a cable 13 can be passed over a guide 8 to the vessel, a brake 14 for locking each trolley 2 to its cable 13, and means 15 (Fig. 3) for locking each trolley fast with the rail on which it runs. By locking the trolleys to the rails winching of the vessel with the trolleys guiding the cables is achieved. With the brakes 14 engaged and the trolleys free to run along the rails, winching hauls the trolleys along the rails and manoeuvres the vessel with respect to the channel. The guide 8 comprises a pulley mounted on a bracket 9 pivotable about a horizontal axis 10 on bearings 11, 12. Each cable 13 passes between the pivotable jaws (14A, 14B) of the brake and then through the bearing 12 before passing to the vessel. Tyred wheels 4, (5), 6, 7 engage vertical and horizontal surfaces (1A, 1D, 1B, 1C) respectively on the rail which is preferably of concrete, Fig. 4 (not shown). Steel blocks 17, Fig. 3, spaced along each rail and a shoe 18 pivotable on the trolley into the path of a selected block form the trolley locking means. A mechanism 19, 20 for cocking the shoe 18 and for releasing it is provided.
