Abstract

Apparatus for continuously pressing material, more particularly heterogeneous material, for example peat, cellulose pulp, fruit pulp, and ground olives, so as to express liquid therefrom, comprises a pressing belt 3 and a screening belt 2, and feed means for distributing material 5 to be pressed over an inner region of the pressing belt, the pressing belt 3 being formed of a foamed material which is impervious to liquid at least on its surface which faces the pressing zone and bearing by its edge portions in the pressing zone on the edge portions of the screening belt 2. A grooved or perforated belt 4 of foamed material, metal or impregnated textile material may underlie belt 2, and a screening belt 1 of perforate metal or open mesh plastics fabric may underlie belt 3. Belt 3 is of foamed rubber or polyurethane rendered impervious by the application of a foil or sheet material or by impregnation. <IMAGE>
