Abstract

200,457. Atwood, H. N. April 3. 1923. Disc wheels.-The body portion is formed with veneer plies 4, Fig. 1, alternating with plies 3 of rubber or other cushioning material, and the tread portion 2 is formed of rubber or other cushioning material integral with the plies 3. The outermost plies 4a are also of rubber, and may be provided with an embedded wire gauze layer, which may also be used in any or all of the rubber plies. Each veneer ply may be formed of one layer or of two or more layers connected by rubber. The rubber plies increase in thickness radially outwards so that the wheel has a dished form on each side. The outer portion of the wheel together with the integral tread may be made detachable by a rabbeted joint, as shown in Fig. 3, the portions being secured together by bolts 23.
