Abstract

In a thread-cutting machine comprising a longitudinal carriage whose reciprocal movements are controlled by a first digitally controlled motor and a transverse carriage 7 carrying the tool, whose reciprocal movements are controlled by a second digitally controlled motor 9, the movements of the transverse carriage are provided through the combined action of a screw 10, rotated by the corresponding motor 9 and cooperating with a nut on the longitudinal carriage, and a cam 11 capable of causing a translatory movement of said screw for fast approach and retraction. The cam 11 is axially fixed on the screw 10 and rotates, by action of a friction ring 24 rotating with the screw, cooperating with stationary followers 19 for producing the translation until a stop 29 engages a respective follower, the cam then slipping on the friction ring. End-of-travel blocks control reversal of the longitudinal carriage. The machine is adaptable for conical threads. <IMAGE>
