Abstract

An improved non-woven paper sheet comprises cellulosic fibres and hydrophilic fibres, such as acrylic, polyester or aramid fibres, the latter being present in an amount of up to 40% by wt. of the paper sheet. Acrylic fibres may be added in a weight amount of from 0.2% to 40% based upon the total weight of the paper sheet. The preferred addition of acrylic fibres is in a weight amount of from 0.2% to 10% based upon the total weight of the paper sheet. Polyester fibres may be added in a weight amount of from 0.5% to 40% based upon the total weight of the paper sheet. The preferred addition of polyester fibres is in a weight amount of from 0.5% to 10% based upon the total weight of the paper sheet. Aramid fibres may be added in a weight amount of from 0.2% to 20% based upon the total weight of the paper sheet. The preferred addition of aramid fibres is in a weight amount of from 0.2% to 5% based upon the total weight of the paper sheet. Such addition of hydrophilic fibres has been found to increase the tear strength of a particular weight of paper whilst only slightly decreasing the tensile strength.
