Abstract

200,371. Tharratt, R. July 14, 1922. Stuffing-boxes, substitutes for.-In stuffing- boxes for propeller shafts &c. of the type in which a disc 12 free to slide on the shaft, engages between the flange of a stationary cap 10 and a spring-pressed ring 7, the latter slides on the boss of a base-plate 5. The disc 12 is recessed to contain packing 16, secured by a plate 18, and is formed with a boss, which is grooved to engage a key or keys 13 on the shaft. The ring 7 is acted on by a single coiled spring, or by a number of springs 8, contained in recesses in the ring 7 and plate 5. The cap 10 and plate 5 are secured by studs 4.
