Abstract

A silencer comprises an inner tube 24 having an inlet at one end 12 for admission of exhaust gases, its other end being closed by a plate 26, the inner tube being provided at spaced positions along its length with two sets of outlet ports 46, 48 through which the exhaust gases can exit into an outer tubular body 10 by passing along an annular passage formed between the inner tube 24 and on sleeve 50 or 52, before reversing in direction and flowing through apertures in a support plate 22 and then to atmosphere through annular gap 20 between frusto-conical baffle 18 and end section 16 of outer body 10. <IMAGE>
