Abstract

Apparatus for detection and removal of foreign bodies 13 from vegetables 12 on a conveyor belt 10 comprises a multichannel system using the reflection of polarized infrared light, each channel comprising a modulated infrared light source 1a synchronized with the other sources and a detector 2a feeding unit 19a which has an amplifier, filter and A.G.C circuit feeding at least one comparator providing a reference level which is the same for the other comparators and adjustable and which gives as soon as this level is exceeded an output signal operating an ejector 16, 14. There may be more than one of these common reference levels, adjustable via control connection 20 by thumbwheel digit switches 23, 24. <IMAGE>
