Abstract

An agitator mill for continuous fine grinding and dispersion of solid constituents suspended in a liquid has a preferably vertical grinding container 1 with a charge of grinding elements and an agitator 2 mounted for rotation therein, an inlet 12 and outlet 16 for upward flow of grinding stock through the charge of grinding elements means 9 for the application of pressure to the charge of grinding elements to vary its volume, an end bearing 6 for the bottom end of the shaft, that end bearing being disposed within the charge of grinding elements. Entry separator means 13 prevent the passage upstream of grinding elements and is disposed upstream of the end bearing. The end bearing is lubricated by the grinding stock and grinding elements can be supplied and withdrawn at the lower region of the container. The end bearing may be surrounded by a bearing housing e.g. better to protect it from grinding elements or e.g. for ease of cooling or lubrication or centration etc. <IMAGE>
