Abstract
A monorail transport system in which a plurality of cars of a train each include a drive mechanism, the mechanisms being connected by a synchronisation control and each comprising a drive wheel engaging one side of the rail and an idler wheel or a corresponding drive wheel engaging the opposite side of the rail. The opposing wheels are biased together with a force which is varied to suit the tractive force to be transmitted. The drive wheels are driven by hydraulic or electric motors powered by a single power unit.
