Abstract

In the process for atomizing a stream of liquid by means of an atomizer nozzle, the liquid is sub-divided into two partial streams upstream of the atomizer nozzle. One of these partial streams is passed through an axial bore 5 in the nozzle body 1 and flows through a cylindrical swirl chamber 6 in the body. The other partial stream is superimposed on the first partial stream at right angles thereto in the swirl chamber 6 from an aperture 12 opening tangentially into the swirl chamber. The resulting combined liquid jet then flows through a cylindrical dwell chamber 7 and leaves through an axial outlet nozzle 8 as a solid cone spray jet. The spray angle can be continuously adjusted between 0 DEG and 70 DEG by adjustment of the quantitative proportions of the two partial streams. <IMAGE>
