Abstract
For supplying groups (1, 2, 3, 4) of synchronous motors, preferably hysteresis motors, alternating current is supplied from an AC power supply (19) to a controllable AC/DC converter (10). The output of the converter (10) is connected via an intermediate circuit (12) having power storage means to a DC/AC converter (8), whose output supplies the motor groups (1, 2, 3, 4). Reactive power compensating means (7) are also connected to converter (8) whose frequency is determined by signal uf applied to control unit (18). Control means (20, 21 and 17 or 27 to 32) control the voltage V1 of converter (10) in accordance with a control signal us and an additional signal uz superimposed on the signal us, the signal uz being proportional to the current in the intermediate circuit (12) and hence to the amplitude of the "intermediate circuit oscillation," which is of low frequency relative to the operating frequency of converter (8) and is produced by self-excitation in the system comprising the motor groups (1-4), capacitors (7) and the circuit (12). The oscillation occurs mainly during simultaneous run-up of the motor groups just before they enter into synchronism and leads to cycling between synchronous and asynchronous operation and unstable operation of the converter. The oscillation is reduced or eliminated by the signal uz whose effect is equivalent to adding a stabilising resistor to the circuit (12). <IMAGE>
