A block copolymer resulting from the condensation of ethylene oxide with a propylene glycol and having a hydrophilic/lipophilic balance of less than 3.5 is used as emulsifier in oil-in-water emulsions useful for cosmetic purposes containing 30 to 60% by weight of water and an oil having a dielectric constant of more than 3.70
