Abstract

In order to prevent fluid entering cable insulation through damaged areas from proceeding longitudinally within the cable to emerge at an end of the cable or in the region of a joint, the insulation 5 is stripped from the cable core 1 at an end portion of the cable 3 or the portion adjacent the joint and a sealing material 3 is applied around the core 1 and the insulation 5 in the region where the core 1 projects from the insulating layer. In the case of two insulated cables joined end to end, the stripped ends of the two cores are connected electrically by a joint 6 and the sealing material 3 extends over the joint 6 the exposed cores 1 and the adjoining parts of the insulation 5. <IMAGE>
