Abstract

An automatic shut-off dispensing nozzle having a manually operable main valve 19 for controlling liquid flow through a spout 14 into a sealed tank, has an auxiliary valve 57 actuated by a diaphragm responsive to the vapour pressure in the tank. When a predetermined pressure exists in the tank the auxiliary valve causes latching mechanism 61 to automatically release and thereby close the main valve. The loading applied to the diaphragm by a spring is adjustable by means 118 to set the predetermined pressure. The nozzle also includes a seal unit 76 for the tank filler pipe and a flow path for vapour recovery from the tank. A further auxiliary valve 54 causes automatic closure of main valve 19 if the seal unit is not engaged with the filler pipe with sufficient force. <IMAGE>
