Abstract
A catalytic process for exhaust emission control in internal combustion engines designed to avoid poisoning of the catalyst by a component or components of the exhaust stream. The catalyst is operated at a temperature eg. >/=850 DEG C at which the said components eg. lead compounds are substantial in the vapour phase. In a preferred embodiment the catalyst units 1<1>, 2<1>, 3<1>, 4<1>, 13 & 14 are disposed at or near the exhaust ports 5<1>-8<1> of the engine so that the catalyst is maintained at the required temperature. Preferably the exhaust is supported by a honeycomb or on a pack of pellets, of washcoated metal or silicon nitride. <IMAGE>
