Abstract

199,614. Ampt, G. A., and Lansdown, S. C. July 11, 1922. Fibrous plastic compositions.-In compositions comprising an inert filler and a binding-agent consisting of a mixture of a solution of rubber in boiled linseed oil, and glue, the filler employed is leather, fibre, cork, &c. in an unpowdered state, and the composition is moulded while hot under considerable pressure. A disinfectant or preservative such as carbolic acid mav also be added. According to an example, 4 parts of glue solution containing 35 per cent of dry glue are mixed with 1 part of boiled linseed oil containing 10 per cent of rubber and 2¢ per cent of carbolic acid. This is mixed with 5-6 parts of shredded leather in a steam-heated mixer, and articles are moulded at a pressure of 1-4 tons per sq. in. The composition is suitable for the manufacture of cricket-balls, boot soles and heels, &c.
