Abstract

109,530. Campbell, J. S. Nov. 13, 1916. Plastic compositions containing india-rubber and fibres; india-rubber.-A composition consists of powdered leather waste, boiled in caustic alkali to saponify the fat in the leather, and rubber or like resilient vulcanizable binding-material, with or without powdered filling and fibrous material as described in Specification 9370/14. This mixture is either (1) combined with a vulcanizing substance, such as sulphur, with or without tannic acid or bark extract and vulcanized, or (2) softened or rendered fluid by means of a solvent and applied to a canvas or other backing and vulcanized. The rubber and other materials are mixed dry between heated rollers.
