Abstract

197,927. Mathieson Alkali Works, Inc., (Assignees of Mauran, M.). May 18, 1922, [Convention date]. Tank wagons; footboards, communication plat. forms, hand-grips.-In a tank wagon of the kind described in Specification 193,001 in which a number of tanks are transversely arranged in cradles mounted on a framework, the tanks are arranged so that each pair of tanks provides a seat for an upper tank. An open framework comprising a centre sill 1 and transverse bearers 2 support rails 5 which carry cradles 6 in which seat tanks 8. These tanks are spaced so as to provide seats for an upper row of tanks 8. Each upper and lower tank may be secured by' adjust. able hooks 13, or each upper and lower tank may be cramped together by a U-shaped cramp at the point of contact of their chimes, or independent straps over the top portion of each upper tank may be detachably connected to a transverse bar lying between each pair of top tanks, the bar being connected to the chimes of the lower tanks by hook bars. A platform 20 and handrail 21 border the tanks. The tanks may also be arranged longitudinally of the vehicle and may also be fitted with fusible plugs which melt at about 150‹ F. A longitudinal arrangement of the containers is illustrated in Specification 197,926.
