Abstract

197,096. Smith, F. J. Feb. 25, 1922. Vehicle lamps, directing.--In means for tilting motor-vehicle head lamps. the lamp mountings comprise pairs of cup-shaped members 1, 2 which are relatively rotatable. in opposition to springs 9, one of each pair being pro. vided with a socket 3 adapted to fit over one of the sterns of the usual lamp forks on the vehicle, the other member carrying a stem 5 adapted to engage the usual sockets on the lamps. The movement of the lamps is controlled from the driver's ceat by Bowden cables secured either directly to the lamps, or to the tangential extensions. 4 of the movable member 2, or to a U-shaped band 16 connecting the two movable members of each mounting. The return springs 9 are seated in sockets 10 formed on the movable members 2 and bear against abutments 11 on the fixed members 1. The movement of the lamps is limited by adjustable set screws 6 in each extension 4 of the fixed members 2 which engage slots- 8 provided in the walls of the members 1.
